The sin of Pride and Hypocrisy

PRIDE AND HYPOCRISY TEXT: Matthew 21:19 "And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward forever. And presently the fig tree withered away." Spurgeon Bible commentary. Jesus was hungry. He saw a fig tree with leaves and was disappointed to find no fruit. He condemned this tree forever. This not Jesus most of us have created in our minds. His action on this occasion is one of the negative destructive miracles that Jesus performed during His ministry. This miracle of cursing the fig tree, harmed nature but not humanity. And the big lesson we can draw from here is an objective lesson that had to learn about the sin of pride and hypocrisy. The fig tree claimed to have fruits but never had them when Jesus looked up to it. Looking at the Jewish leaders who lived at Jesu's time, they claimed to be of God, but they were not. The sin of pride and hypocrisy never left them at any given time, unlike some of us today the sin of pride and hypocrisy keeps on ensnaring our lives however much we try to move towards the Lord by our own justification just as the Jewish leaders. What was needed of this Jewish leaders was humbleness to be called by God other than self justification that stayed with them which produced the sin of pride and hypocrisy amongst them. The Jewish leaders unlike some of us today, thought they were superior and invincible. Our thoughts are enemity towards God's love. The more we embrace our thoughts the further we move away from God. We need to embrace Jesus in our hearts to put us right with God for He is the only hope we have to avoid disappointment. Today when you read this message turn to Jesus and not your own self esteem that can corrupt your relationship with God. May God bless you all.
